Giving
Giving to God is a part of our worship. We recognise that God gave. In return, we give back. We give in several ways including our time, our abilities in acts of service and our financial giving.
The Bible teaches a practice in the Old Testament called Tithing. A tithe is 10% and was required, in law, by God.
Thanks to Jesus, we are not under law but grace. God no longer lays claim to 10%; He is after the heart of the giver.
The Bible teaches that we should give freely and cheerfully without any thought of reward. Our giving should be systematic and proportionate to our income; not giving what we can spare, but according to what God has entrusted to us. We aspire to give to the best of our ability, for giving is a way we can take part in spreading the Gospel. In reality, nothing we possess is ours: it all belongs to God.
There are different ways of giving. You can give your time. You can offer someone a meal. If you want to give monetarily, direct debit, cash or by donation are the main ways. If you do, make sure you fill out a 'Gift Aid' form, whereby we can claim back a percentage of your gift from the government.
